"Michael J. Squirrel"

Orphaned at 5 weeks of age, during a Florida wind storm in the fall of 1996, "Michael J. Squirrel" weighed only 2.1 ounces when he was brought to us by one of our local veterinarians.

As he grew and began to eat on his own, we discovered that his bottom teeth were growing at warp speed.  Even though he gnawed on everything in sight, we had to trim his bottom teeth once-a-week.  He graduated to a bimonthly teeth trimming.

We could not release "Michael J. Squirrel" because, without his teeth trimming, his teeth would eventually grow through the roof of his mouth and he would not be able to eat.  Therefore, "Michael J. Squirrel" had a permanent home at "Boo-Boo" Acres.

"Michael J. Squirrel" attached himself to our son, Jimmy, who was his adopted Dad.  He had his own two-story condo, which his Dad custom built for him.  The thing "Michael J." liked the most was to go for a ride in his Dad's Truck!

"Michael J." had a very rare, unique quality!   He loved to baby-sit our orphaned baby squirrels!  He had a very loving personality when it came to the baby squirrels . . . he hugged them, groomed them, played with them, shared his food and his toys with them, and slept cuddled up close to them.  (As a fully matured, male squirrel, this behavior was almost unheard of.)  We could give "Michael J." orphaned babies as young as 7 weeks.

"Michael J." helped us out with numerous orphaned babies.   He was especially good with single orphans.  A single orphan has a more difficult time adjusting back into the wild because they have not had the advantages that growing up with their natural mother & siblings affords them.  However, with "Michael J." as their substitute mother/brother, they learned the basic skills they would need when they were released back into the wild.

Just like "Boo-Boo", "Michael J." was a very "Special Little Guy"!
