Stealth was a big boy who
stood 28 inches at the shoulders and weighed in at 73 pounds.
According to Stealth's owner,
"...he was always a very compassionate and loving greyhound.
He was a leaner. Anyone that had a leg to give him, he would lean on it and nudge you to have you pet him.
That is what made him a wonderful therapy dog for 11 years. But, when it came time for him to play ball - WOW
- he was an obsessed maniac with the ball ...".
|
| .
From the time Stealth was adopted,
his big joy on this earth was running after and retrieving a tennis ball.
He started Flyball at 8 years old -- kind of late in the game for anybody starting
Flyball. But, all the time and hard work paid off because three days before his 9th birthday he landed the title of Flyball Dog Excellent and at that time immediately ranked 5th
Flyball Greyhound in North America.
Stealth raced in the anchor
position for his team. Being right-pawed, with a swimmer's
turn off the box and jumping 9 inches most of the time, he would
turn in a 5.5 second run.
Stealth raced in a Greyhound
Premier Collar with his owner/handler, Dana Provost, releasing him
approximately 16 feet from the start line.
After his turn from the box, Dana would yell, "Stealth here" and get his eye on another tennis ball in
her hand and then place it behind her and run like the dickens for him to drop the ball by
her and take the other tennis ball in her hand for his reward.
He was obsessed and Dana tried everything, but the tennis ball
was what he returned for best.

According to Dana:
"...when Stealth was playing
Flyball, he was doing something he loved and I was doing it with him and we shared that love for the game together.
Flyball kept him in shape and in good health. The year he turned 11, I retired him from
Flyball. He was diagnosed with lumbrosacral degenerative disease and had started turning over the jumps.
I really believe that one of the things that kept Stealth in such good shape and health was doing
Flyball. He passed away in 2003 at 13-1/2 years old. Stealth was my heart and soul and brought me and my other greyhounds many years of joy and
compassion ...".
In 2003 Stealth was Inducted into the
Wild West Veterinary Pet Hall of Fame (Companion Dog).

"Sonic" (CRN
970556) - White with Yellow Brindle Male
FDX, CGC
 |
Sonic came from Point Breeze kennel in
CA and was a well rounded hound, trying a little of
everything including oval track, lure coursing, open field
coursing, agility and Flyball. He was 27 inches at the shoulders and weighed in at
65 pounds.
According to his owner,
"I discovered clicker training when he was about 4.
He picked up tricks fast, he was opening and shutting cupboards,
picking up objects like keys and rubber bands off the floor when
asked, and even licked his lips on command."
|
|
Sonic didn't race in Flyball
until the age of 5. He raced in the 3rd position for his
team, after the experienced dogs but before the height dog.
He was left-pawed, with a two-footed box turn and was a single
strider between the jumps.
Sonic raced in a purple nylon
Flyball collar with his owner/handler, Erica Martin, releasing him
close to the start line, as he was new to Flyball. He
didn't use a tug toy but returned for praise, in typical
Greyhound style.
Sonic's Flyball career was short but he was a really special dog loved
by everyone and did everything he did with style.
Sonic had a ring through his nose
(installed by a vet), which people either loved or hated, and he
liked the attention it got him.

According to Erica:
"This dog had so much potential, it really caught everyone
off guard when we tragically lost him at 6 years old. He
suffered fatal injuries in a dog-dog collision at a dog
park. So many people have all sorts of memories of him, it's
an understatement to say he was one of a kind."
